I know people crap on BioWare romances, but maybe we should be kinder than them, because if Bioware is jejune, then this game is outright juvenile. Two characters have sex once or twice, and I'm to believe they're in transformative love now. All plot points and themes involved in this visual novel are about as substantitive as that--they rely on stereotypic scripts and cliché turns of phrase.I can't bring myself to muster any reaction to this game other than apathy. It's good that I didn't pay $20 for it.. I thoroughly enjoyed it and played through it all in one sitting, though I'll have to go back through it because I only got a few achievements. There's so many good lines in the story, and I was hooked by it. I do feel like I figured out the main thing way too early on, though the quick little side thing did get me.The ending I got was so brutal despite me thinking I did quite well with my choices, but so is life, right?. I tried to get into this game, but it really wasn't hooking me. It's a bad sign when you're a less than halfway through a game and already thinking "how much longer can this go on?". But I frankly simply didn't find the plot interesting or enjoyable, the dialog seemed forced, and the game just didn't make me care about the characters or what happened to them. Gorgeous artwork though.. This is it. This is the absolute gem of my game collection. Where do I even start? The breathtaking artwork? The amazing, ear soothing music? The carefully put together, impressively branching story? At its core, Solstice is a mystery story with fantasy elements. The city, protected by a magic dome from freezing winter, is a desolate city of sinister secrets, calculative deceit and passionate love. Don't forget the occasional murder and sabotage. The main characters, Galen and Yani, end up investigating the precarious city. They both have secrets they want to keep. They aren't an open book which is rare for a visual novel protagonist – you aren't in charge of everything. Every choice leads to a believable scenario – they have consequences, both small and big. The romance routes for Galen and Yani are completely optional and dealt with a satisfying manner. Every character in this story is an individual and so lifelike, I can't help but feel deep gratitude to the writers of Moacube. The game offers four endings with multiple variations and each of them are satisfying in their own ways. Even the grim ones, the bad endings, make you really ponder. Is it necessarily bad or good if it ends like it ends? Solstice is an immersive, unforgettable adventure and offers a lot of value for its price. I wholeheartedly recommend it for everyone, even to the ones who don't necessarily feel visual novels to be their thing.. It's an okay game maybe a bit weird and to much about sex for some reson. Though the biggest disapointment is the fact that the gamecode contains error causing the game to crash before the end. So it's in need of som serious work on that department. Also, there's a bit annoying that the characters is mirrored when the stand on the "other side" with other words: if the got a bracelet on it allways either against you or away from you no matter which side you watch the person from. A bit poor made with other words.. Dislike this game overall. What a gorgeous game!Pros: Beautiful. Interesting plot. You get to play as two different characters who have mysterious backstories you have to discover. The main characters are really cool. One is an interesting female protagonist. Lots of choices. The story is a good length (maybe a little long).Cons: There were a lot of endings, but most were not happy endings. I felt like it was not very satisfying to go through the whole game and then have a lot of bad choices to choose from. It makes it much less re-playable for me personally.. Solstice is an excellent achievement in branching narrative. It very cleverly plays upon the idea of how the narrative works in both consequences and in overall events of the story itself. The premise is a classic one, what happens when a variety of people who all harbour secrets and mysteries are enclosed in a limited space for a duration of time and their response to a murder. This of course is all packaged neatly into the cityscape of 'The Jewel of the North' the city which itself hides multiple secrets. You assume the role of two characters both who arrive shortly before the city closes for the winter and who have their own agenda to fulfil. The gameplay is standard for a narrative game, click to proceed and keep reading with occasional dialogue choices. Where the game is clever is that it isn't always obvious as to what the consequence was... Sometimes it's direct, I. E. Choosing which scene to go to next, and sometimes completely obscured, as in depending on your choice the narrative and character response is exactly the same even with different choices and the outcome is only revealed at the very end of the game. I loved this aspect as it made one curious as to how one's actions actually influenced others and made the npc's more believable as a cast since they still respond as individuals during the game and so feel less like puppets. This was an integral part of their characterization and believability. The game has no fast forward or skip option so each time you need to play through carefully and read, for many this might be tedious but I found it refreshing as each time it required more careful introspection of one's responses, which gave further satisfaction at the games end. The game is quite advanced in its endings as well, with four major endings as well as multiple additional consequences for the characters depending on how you play (for the pc's) or how well you develop and respond to their character (npc's). This dynamic is particularly clear for all characters and adds an element of role playing to the game that would otherwise be absent. In addition the opportunity to control two characters and have them interact with each other is even more refreshing and although one scene requires both simultaneously it is carefully handled to be shown who is currently under the players command. The characters are well developed and incredibly diverse. Not only racially but in terms of their interests and personalities. In addition the depth of characterization is very well accomplished from each characters sprites that convey emotions in vastly different ways, to the carefully chosen words to give each one personality throughout the story. The overall narrative explores some intensive themes such as personal responsibility, individual reaction to systems of authority as well as exploring how each individuals psychology assists them in adapting to the scenario in which they find themselves. Due to this the multiple outcomes give different weight and perspectives to the themes of the narrative and the entire story becomes an exercise into sociology, psychology and philosophy. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys explorations of the human psyche and is interested in seeing how games and game mechanics can create a reflective environment to explore questions of humanity and society without being preachy.. Good dialogue, visuals and intrigue that displays (at least, in the ending I took >.>) a compassionate understanding of the worse traits of humanity. Beautifully crafted and written. A story worthwhile consuming. Fixed ghosts achievements: Fixed ghosts achievements. Now empty cubes are determined specifically..
